Following the alleged secret meeting held on Friday by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU in Kano state, The National Executive council of the union has outlined fresh conditions in which the Federal Government must meet to end the ongoing industrial action.
The Union met with the President yesterday Monday 25th November, 2013 which the NEC disclosed the new demands by the Union. Some of the details of the conditions issued to the Federal Government by ASUU are as follows:
- The Federal Government should pay all outstanding salaries of the union and its members for the four months period of the strike.
- payment of N100bn (one hundred billion naira) out of the 1.2trillion naira as recorded in the 2009 agreement before the end of this year 2013, and the rest of the monies be spread across five years payable as from next year 2014.
Reacting to the above, supervising minister and minister of state for education, Barr Nyesom Wike has described the union’s demands as outrageous, stating that the new conditions given to the Federal Government is indeed a huge meat to swallow.
He however assured the state commissioners for education that he will meet with the President to figure out a way to remedy the situation.
